New Anti-Malaria Drug Is Being Developed At The Dundee University

The researchers at the Dundee have discovered a new compound that could help in treating and controlling the spread of malaria in just a single dose. The Drug Discovery Unit of the University and the Malaria Venture Medicines founded the compound named DDD107498. The scientists claimed that the new drug will work against resistance of parasites and help to carry out the treatment of people. The complete details of this finding have been published in the Journal Nature.

According to the reports of the World Health Organisation, there were about 200 million cases of malaria in 2013 and about 5,84,000 people had died from this mosquito borne disease, malaria. Most of the people who died due to this disease were children under five and pregnant women. The concerns about the strains of malaria are increasing as the current treatment seems to be ineffective. This disease had first appeared in the borders of Myanmar and India.

Dr Kevin Read said that the new drug was required urgently. Resistance to the standard gold by using an anti – malarial drug was a real threat. The compound that was discovered had the potentiality to work against drug resistant parasites. It targeted to form such machinery that can make proteins within parasite that can cause malaria. DDD107498 compound helps you to protect against some vulnerable disease. The project was initiated by collecting 4,700 compounds at the Drug Discovery Unit that can kill parasites of malaria.
